Professor SUNG Nakin Elected as Next President of SNU
June 19, 2014 The SNU Board of Directors elected Professor SUNG Nakin (School of Law) as the next president of SNU on June 19. Professor Sung received 8 votes out of a total of 15 votes in this election which is the first time the SNU president will be chosen based on an indirect election system. Professor Sung entered SNU as an undergraduate student in 1969 and went on to study law in France. He came to SNU as a professor in 2002, after having taught law at Yeungnam University for twenty-two years. He served as the dean of the College of Law from June 2004 to May 2006 and was also a member of the SNU Council. He stated that he will “focus on cultivating outstanding and good-minded students.” Professor Sung’s term in office will begin on July 20 and be for the next two years. more
SNU to Consider a Trimester System
June 24, 2014 SNU is considering changing its two semester system to a trimester one, in order to improve its global competitive edge. The plan is to make the current summer classes a regular term like the spring and fall semesters. SNU will run the summer trimester as the ‘global trimester’ with more English classes and foreign faculty and students visiting. This, SNU believes, will alleviate the burden of foreign language studies that students bear during the spring and fall semesters. In addition, SNU is planning to expand exchange with prestigious foreign universities such as Harvard and Yale and bring world renowned scholars to lecture at SNU during the summer. more
