Professor Hong Jong-ho, who participated in the exhibition, graduated from the Department of Economics at Seoul National University and obtained a doctoral degree in Environmental Economics and Public Finance from Cornell University. He subsequently served as a research fellow at the Korea Development Institute (KDI) and as a professor at the College of Economics and Finance at Hanyang University before currently teaching Climate, Environment, and Energy Economics and Sustainable Development Policy at Seoul National University's Graduate School of Environmental Studies.

He has held positions such as Director of the Graduate School of Environmental Studies at Seoul National University, Director of the Environmental Planning Research Institute and the Institute for Sustainable Development, President of the Korean Association of Public Finance, President of the Korean Association of Environmental Economics, and President of the Asian Association of Environmental and Resource Economics (AAERE). Currently, he is active as a member of the Seoul National University ESG Committee and as a standing co-chair of the Energy Transition Forum, a registered corporation.

Professor Hong Jong-ho states in the preface to the exhibition, "The issue of climate change is a typical example of how closely intertwined the environment and the economy are. Looking at it from only one perspective will never solve the problem." He further remarks, "In the future, the global economy is expected to undergo a complete restructuring towards a decarbonized trade norm. This rapid transition poses both a significant threat and an opportunity for the Korean economy and Korean companies, offering new markets, job creation, and regional economic revitalization." We have now moved beyond the era where environmental issues and economic development were perceived as contradictory, and entered an era where the survival and development of our economy are determined by the success or failure of decarbonization strategies in response to the climate crisis.

Through this online book exhibition held on the Central Library's website, we hope to examine why climate change is emerging as an economic crisis beyond an environmental issue, and to collectively contemplate and find solutions and responses to it.

Seoul National University Central Library is enhancing its role as a complex cultural space where knowledge, information, and cultural contents converge, and is promoting the "Seoul National University Knowledge-Based Cultural and Art Sharing" project to activate library usage. This exhibition is part of the project and is held as an event under the "Online Themed Book Exhibition".
