[College of Natural Sciences] Graduate Thesis Review Announcement

The Masters & Ph.D. graduate thesis review for the 2008 autumn semester will be carried out as follows:

1. Eligibility of Thesis Submission

To submit your thesis, you should meet the following requirements and get a recommendation from your thesis director.

(1) You must pass the thesis-qualifying exam (foreign language & major subject)

(2) Credit : you must have taken the required credits demanded by your respective department (including the credits that will be taken on 2008 autumn semester)

(3) You should not have exceeded the Master & Ph. D thesis submission period.
*If you have exceeded the period due to a military service, please submit documentary evidence.

(4) Students who have received a thesis submission period extension, in accordance with the SNU degree provision of Article No.9 2nd term.

(5) Students who have been granted the right to submit the thesis, in accordance with the SNU degree provision of Article No.9 4th term.

(6) Students who have qualified the extra requirements demanded by the respective department.

(7) Students who have finished the graduate course and enrolled as a graduate research student.

2. Thesis Review Schedule

Thesis Submission Registration & Review Fee Payment Period : Thursday, October 16th 2008 - Friday, October 24th 2008

(1) Submission Location : Administration offices of each department

(2) Required Documents :
- Masters: Masters Degree Thesis Review Application
- Ph.D.: Ph.D Thesis Review Application, Advisor Recommendation and Resume

(3) Review Fee:
- Master: 100,000 Won
- Ph. D: 300,000 Won

* First you should receive the bill from the respective administration office of your department and make a payment at Nonghyup or Shinhanbank. Present the receipt that you receive when making a payment to the administration office.

* If you are doing Ph. D course and have got an extension of the thesis submission period, the review fee is exempted.

(4) Thesis & Abstract Submission:
Detailed plan will differ for each department.

B. Thesis Review : Detailed plan will differ for each department, but the number of reviews of the Ph.D. thesis should be more than 3, including presentation, preliminary review, and final review.

C. Final Review Period : Detailed schedule will differ for each department.

D. Criteria:

(1) Master:
- Thesis Grade: 'B' or higher (approval of more than 2/3 of the review board) and
- Oral Test: 60 points or higher (%)

(2) Ph. D:
- Approval of more than 4/5 of the review board on final review
- Oral Test: 70 points or higher (%) on average
   (But more than 4/5 of the review board must give a grade higher than 70)

3. Thesis for Preservation & Thesis On-Line Submission

A. Thesis On-Line Submission : After the review until Friday, February 6th 2009

B. Submission Period of a Thesis for Preservation :
Monday, February 2nd 2009 ~ Friday, February 6th 2009

C. Submission Location : CentralUniversity Library 4th Floor

(1) Master's: Silver-hardcover 4 copies

(2) Ph. D's: Gold-hardcover 4 copies

* 'Certificate of Confirmation' including all the review boards' signature and an"Agreement of the Thesis' Text Offer" must be attached to at least one copy.

* Printing Format: Refer to the SNU Degree Provision Article No.8 and Thesis Review Plan (equipped in every department)

*The title of the thesis for preservation must be same to that of the final review.

*You should submit your thesis of preservation in a given period. Otherwise, you will be excluded from the degree granting. If your excuse is approved by your department’s dean, you can extend the period for one semester.

4. Etc.

A. Extension of the Thesis Submission Period : After finishing a course, you can apply for the extension. If your application has been accepted after some deliberation, you can extend the period for up to 2 years on both the Masters and Ph.D. thesis.
