Invitational Lecture - The Ideology of World Literature & The Task of Translation

With numerous choices in dramas, movies and music, the demand for Korean entertainment content is still high, but there is one area that even the locals have not started to realize the importance of despite its potential: literature translation.

“I believe Korean literature is actually well known among international readers. The only way to judge if Korean literature is being appreciated is to find out how many Korean works have been introduced through translation,'' says Yoon Ji-kwan, director of the state-run Korea Literature Translation Institute (KLTI).

The KLTI was launched in 2001 and has been working on numerous ways to bring the Korean literature translation business to the next level, both in quality and quantity.

“There are two ways to see if we are actually in the game of the literary world. First, we must have a certain outcome in order to say that Korean literature has reached a certain level, and we need to be frank with this one. Another way is to see if Korean literature corresponds to the literary trend of the world,'' Yoon says.

Now on Wednesday, Nov 26th, Director Yoon Ji-kwan will be visiting our campus to explain the importance of translation during a special invitational lecture. All interested parties are invited to participate in this great opportunity.
