Alumnus Park Ji-min To Play Romeo at La Scala

Alumnus PARK Ji-min of vocal music, has been cast to play the leading role in a La Scala Theater production.

Park will play Romeo in"Romeo and Juliet," which will open in May and last through June of 2011.

Park makes the second Korean tenor to play a leading role at the prominent Italian theater, following Lee Jung-won.

"The role requires a singer to be strained yet powerful throughout the whole opera. But I will portray a genuine Romeo who dies 100 percent because of love," Park told Yonhap News Agency.

A lyrical tenor, Park is known for his rich musical expressions and ability to hit high notes.

Park was taught by Professor KANG Byung Woon at College of Music and studied oratorio in Austria. He won tenor's major awards include the Vienna Staatsoper Special Prize at the International Belvedere Singing Competition in Austria in 2004 and First Prize at the International Art Song Competition in France in 2006.
